Questions

Do you buy or store our data?

No. We never receive, copy or host your data. If you choose a buyer, the data moves between your systems and that buyer under the agreement you sign with them.

What does it cost?

Nothing for companies. Buyers pay us a referral fee when a company we introduce signs with them. The program pays it, not you, and we disclose it. How we get paid.

Why say "license" and not "sell"?

In most of these deals you grant a buyer the right to use a copy of specific data for a defined purpose and time. You keep your data and your business. "License" describes that more accurately.

How much is our data worth?

It depends on the buyer, your headcount, years of history, tools and how much you exclude. We show the ranges buyers publish, with the date we checked them, on the terms tracker. We do not quote amounts ourselves; actual offers come from buyers.

What data never leaves?

Customer personal information, financial account data, health information, passwords and secrets, and anything your contracts or the law restrict. We help you put those exclusions in the buyer agreement in writing.

What about our employees and clients?

Employee communications and client information raise real questions. Read Is it safe? for what to check, and talk to your own lawyer before signing. We are not a law firm.

We are closing the company. Is it too late?

Often it is the best time. Closing and closed companies are among the strongest candidates because the data is no longer in daily use. See Closing a company.

Are you affiliated with the buyers?

We have referral agreements with some buyers, listed on the disclosure page. We are independent of all of them and will tell you when none is a good fit.
