Marketing and creative agencies: licensing company data to AI

Agencies hold rich project data: briefs, feedback rounds, timelines and the Slack threads that move work forward. Buyers training work agents value that kind of collaboration history. The catch is ownership: much of an agency's output is work made for clients, and client materials usually come with NDAs. The agency's own process data is the safer scope.

What agency data is valuable to AI buyers?

Project management histories (tasks, status changes, comments)
Show how creative work is planned, reviewed and delivered.
Internal Slack or Teams channels
Real coordination across roles. Client channels need separate review.
Briefs and feedback rounds, with client identifiers removed
Iteration on creative work is hard to find elsewhere.
New-business proposals and SOWs the agency wrote
Agency-owned writing about scoping and pricing work.
Reporting templates and QA checklists
Agency-owned process content.

Typical tools: Slack, Asana, Monday.com, ClickUp, Figma, HubSpot, Google Workspace, Harvest.

What are the risks specific to marketing and creative agencies?

Client ownership of work product

Master service agreements often assign deliverables and work in progress to the client. If the client owns it, the agency cannot license it.

Client NDAs and confidential launches

Unreleased campaigns, product plans and performance data belong to clients and are usually under NDA.

Shared Slack Connect channels

Messages from client staff in shared channels are the client's communications too. Exclude shared channels by default.

Ad account and analytics data

Platform terms (Google Ads, Meta) restrict how data from those accounts is used. Keep it out.

What should never leave?

  • Client-owned deliverables and assets
  • Shared or Slack Connect channels with clients
  • Client ad-platform and analytics data
  • Talent contracts, rates and personal information

Questions

Can an agency license Slack data to an AI company?

Internal channels are often a fit; shared channels with clients usually are not. Check your MSAs for confidentiality terms first.
